France: Veuze
Also known as the "Veze", and occasionally Cornemuse Nantaise from the region in Southern Brittainy where it is most commonly found and usually comprises a chanter and single drone which can be either a bass or a tenor.
References are also found to the "Veze Poitiovin" so the instrument would seem to have a common ancestry with the Cornemuse de Poitiou.
The wide conical bore with the flaring bell gives the instrument a loud bright tone.
More modern variations include both these drones which can be in a common stock or separate stocks with the occasional addition of a treble drone sounding the six finger keynote. The compass of the chanter is an octave and a fourth the tone being loud and bright due to the wide flaring bell. It is mouth blown.
