The World of Bagpipes

Reeds

The following pages give details of the reeds used for the more common instruments - a number of them are applicable to several instruments types and this is noted with each type.

Unfortunately there is not a great deal of standardization of sizes for reeds and bagpipes of the same family but by different makers may well vary. Where  possible try to follow the dimensions of the original reeds that came with the instrument, but experimentation may be necessary where these do not exist.

If the particular one you need is not here please let me know and I will see what I can find in my library.

The first part of this section gives general methods for making both double and single reeds and is followed by a selection of "typical" sizes.
