Musette Vignar

Above : Musette by Vignar (Museum)

This instrument is a copy of an original in the Horniman Museum in London and in its provenance is said to come from Normandie. It displays the makers name "Vignar" but not unfortunately the place of manufacture and consists of chanter with a tenor drone in a flat stock and a separate bass drone.

The instrument displays enough unique characteristics for it to be classified separately these being a wide conical bore, very small tone holes, which is similar to the Cabrette but the chanter is very thick walled. The drones have narrow cylindrical bores with single reeds. The tone is similar to that of the Cabrette.

The original is made from stained fruitwood (apple?) with bone mounts on the chanter, drones and stocks with mother of pearl inlay on the chanter/tenor drone stock.

Materials

The instrument can be ordered either in natural wood finish or stained black like the original.
